Program Description
Event Details
Poet and presenter Brenda Cave-James will honor her widowed and enterprising grandmother's life while raising six children alone. Before the destructive "progress" of the Model Cities Program (1966), the Susquehanna Street neighborhood was quite a different place, with thriving Black businesses and creative networking going on.
Mrs. Margaret Cave was one of many women who due to "silent segregation" opened their homes for dining, entertainment and bed/breakfast accommodations.
Members of Margaret's community included, Beccye (Boyd) Fawcett, Gentleman Joe Taylor, Andrew Johnson and Cleo Lewright.
Brenda will share part of her two vast photo collections, compliments of her uncle, Allan Cave and Mr. Claude Fawcett.
