The Broome County Public Library (BCPL) is seeking applicants for the position of Head of Information Services (Librarian III). Located in downtown Binghamton, New York, BCPL is the central library of the Four County Library System. The work involves responsibility for managing BCPL’s Information Services Department, which includes reference and adult services.
Responsibilities include:
- Serves as head of the Information Services Department and supervises all department staff
- Works with department staff and Library Administration to update existing policies and procedures and develop new ones
- Develops departmental budget requests
- Actively participates in the Library’s management team
- Serves as the librarian in charge during the absence of the Director and Assistant Director
- Provides excellent reference and readers’ advisory services
- Assists library patrons with the use of public computers, software, online resources and digital content
- Oversees and participates in collection development and collection maintenance
- Develops and assesses adult program
- Prepares statistical and narrative reports
- Actively pursues professional development opportunities
- Performs other duties as assigned by Library Administration
Requirements:
- An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree
- Possession of a current New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate at time of appointment
- Four years of professional library experience
- A commitment to public service and the ability to serve a diverse community
- Ability to effectively and collaboratively lead a team, as well as work independently
Preferred: Two years of supervisory experience
Initial appointment will be on a provisional basis pending the completion of a credential-based civil service exam.
Starting salary: $63,664/year with full benefits
